Garden Flat Expo

Wentworth Community Housing has come together with local experts and businesses to present the very first Garden Flat Expo on Saturday 10 November from 10 am to 3 pm at the Blue Mountains Theatre & Community Hub, Springwood.
Do you own a property with a backyard in the Blue Mountains, Penrith or Hawkesbury? Do you know a homeowner or investor who does? Come to our Garden Flat Expo to explore how you can benefit financially from an investment in garden flats at the same time as making a real change in your community.
Small garden flats of around 20-25m2 are far more affordable to build than large 60m2 garden flats as they are around half the price.
By encouraging an increase in the supply of small garden flats, we are tackling the shortage of low-cost permanent housing as many singles and couples, including older people, are looking for smaller and more affordable homes in our communities.
The Garden Flat Expo will make it easy for homeowners and investors to explore whether a garden flat is a good option for them by bringing all the experts they will need to consult in making a decision. Stalls will include council town planners, builders, mortgage brokers, banks, and a series of speakers.
The expo is being organised by Wentworth Community Housing in partnership with Heading Home and support from Blue Mountains City Council.
Heading Home is a project group with the aim to prevent and end homelessness in Penrith, Blue Mountains and the Hawkesbury. Wentworth is the backbone organisation for Heading Home along with leaders from local government, community organisations, local businesses, real estate agents and volunteer groups.
Wentworth will offer a limited number of incentive packages for home owners who want to go the extra step and offer their home to someone facing homelessness.
We will nominate a suitable tenant to go into the property, with the owners’ consent, and provide tenancy management for free, support the tenant and financially cover vacancies over a 2 to 3 year period.
The investor is guaranteed a $150 per week, $7,800 annual rental return from Wentworth.
